Take a more sophisticated look at the way in which people differ from each other. There are more or less 5 broad dimensions along which people differ (big 5) Will be using behavior and state interchangeable. So concept of trait (long term) and state/behavior (immediate behavior) Slide 2 across situations in time: the mean level. There words are descriptive of people qualities of behavior but all of them make references to how people are typically (so on average) Adjectives on the left they are different words and refer to different: ex hardworking this person is more hard working then other people. Right hand: less commonly used words different from each other rather than just our averages. So we are different from people not in just what we typically do, but in the range of behaviors that we are capable of. Fleesan approach with trait literature: we may need to rethink the way we use trait words.
