Lecture 02 & chapter 2: origins of criminal behaviour: developmental risk factors. Antisocial/criminal behaviour in adults can be traced to their childhood, some are not (adult criminality onset) identified at a very early age developmental pathway- characteristics that can be risk factors are experiences that were found common . The more risk factors a person is exposed to, the likely the among many repeat offenders; the person will participate in antisocial behaviour. Cumulative risk model- accumulation of risk factors in interaction among risk factors and their effect on the absence of sufficient protective factors result in negative behavioural, emotional, and cognitive outcomes. The greater the number of risks experienced, the greater the prevalence of mental health, cognitive deficits and behavioural problems; additive approach developmental cascade model- (cid:498)snowballing(cid:499); outcomes; person"s developmental skills or deficits enhance or determine the nest skill or deficit. Also focuses on development and enhancement of positive cascades; positive parenting and development of cognitive competence.
