Document Summary
Name three coordinate frames relevant to the study of hemispatial neglect: egocentric, viewpoint-centric, object based, environment based. Name a clinical test used to diagnose hemispatial neglect - line bisection task, line cancelation task. Right inferior parietal cortex (posterior optic ataxia) Consciousness and visual awareness are fascinating topics, and have interested cognitive psychologists for decades. Problem of consciousness, or the mind-brain problem, was originally the realm of philosophers. Dualism: famously advocated by rene descartes, states that the mind and brain are two distinct and separate phenomena, and conscious experience is nonphysical and beyond the scope of the physical sciences. Materialism: both mind and body are physical mediums and that by understanding the physical workings of the body and brain well enough, an understanding of the mind will follow. Both viewpoints ignore inconvenient problems: dualism overlooks biological findings, and materialism overlooks the reality of subjective experiences.
