Document Summary
Terminology after slicing brain: horizontal, coronal, sagittal: when mri, all three slices needed, don"t all have to be perpendicular to eachother, horizontal also = transverse/axial. Anterior commissure is used to centre slices provides good coverage of entire brain. Very bottom : components of cns that mediates stuff such as reflexes. Cerbral lobes: executive functioning, more evolutionary advanced. Allocortex: oldest parts of the brain, mesocortex after allo, and neocortex is the newest and most advanced. Medulla lowest level of brain stem. motor fibres control body contralaterally. This crossover occurs in the medulla: ras: circadian rhythms. Interacts a little bit with higher cognitive function. If damage to medulla, it is fatal (stroke/tumor) Pons: higher up than medulla sits superior to medulla. Anterior to cerebellum (sits infront of it: contains certain types of nuclei, superior olive: info from ears to brain, in aprticuar to auditory cortex. Part of ras: superior colliculus: visual processing nuclei. Inferior colliculus: attention to auditory stimuli (auditory localization)
