If we do not focus our atenion, we are overwhelmed with informaion (scatered brain, confused) Overt atenion: movement of eye when something grabbed your atenion; body movements/gestures are also signs of overt atenion. Covert atenion: do not have body movement; a cogniive shit to focus on a speciic simulus. Involuntary/ exogenous: ex. someone throws the ball at you; someone"s phone rings; someone calls your name. Subject ixates on the screen, and the cue will appear, and then disappear. There are valid/invalid trials cue is poining the right/wrong direcion. Neutral cue not giving any useful informaion. All of this happens in 800 m seconds. Cue can afect the speed of detecing the appearance of the target subjects are signiicantly slower/faster if cue is valid or invalid. When mulitasking, we oten cannot do both things very well compared to doing one thing at a ime.
