This shows how scheduling can improve statistics with respect to usage and abuse. By changing the legality of the drug, its use went down, which is good because of the harm its nefarious use causes. It is a metabolite of gaba which tells us that it is a drug that has an impact that is depressant like in quality. To create ghb, the body does it automatically, and this was found out after it was made synthetically; we only know a bit about the chemistry. Gaba transaminase is an enzyme that takes gaba and forms it into an intermediate called succinic semi-aldehyde and that intermediate can be acted on by another enzyme called succinic semi-aldehyde reductase to form ghb. These two enzymes allow for ghb to be created back and forth. The ratio between ghb and gaba is completely weighted towards gaba itself, ghb is in trace quantity but nonetheless it does exist.
