Structuralists: mental events are passive reflections of environmental events. Gestalt: brain is a dynamic configuration of forces that transforms sensory information: organized brain activity dominates our perceptions, not the stimuli that enter into that activity. Brain organizational, taking things from evn"t & etc and organizing it: perceptions not same as stimuli that comprise them. Main idea to organize material: behavior and cognitive processes are part of a field that affect each other. These processes can be memories, beliefs, perceptions, physiology, etc: any change in one process changes the whole pattern. World looks different on an upset stomach or a sad memory. If you"re sick, your pattern of behavioural and cognitive processes change: a field can exist at many levels. All people in the environment can be another field, etc.
