Document Summary

Learning goal #1: rydell et al argues that different systems can be the source of different attitudes. Learning goal #2: rydell et al. hypothesize that these two systems should be sensitive to different kinds of information. What are those different kinds of information: slow learning system: relevant to understanding how implicit attitudes form and function. Implicit attitudes follow basic principles of similarity, association and information gathering: fast learning system: relevant to understanding explicit attitudes as evaluations based on resource-intensive conscious thought, people have control over their expression of explicit attitudes. Learning goal #3: you should be able to describe the basic design of the study. This study investigated the sensitivity to subliminally presented, temporally congruent primes that provided target evaluation associations and to consciously accessible, written behavioral info that needs higher level cognitive processing. Participants seated at computers and told they would receive info about bob and they learned about him over 200 learning trials.
