Rcts are very short up to 16 week period. Done to be similar to med. treatments increasing internal validity but cannot be gen. to clin. settings b/c 16 wks is short. Focus exclusively on one disorder/disease; creates small subject pool therefore any findings only applicable to this small pool of people while majority in fact have comorbidities. Everything is done step-by-step for treatment fails to take into account individuality of patients (experiences/comorbidities/general) Things not disorder, now disorder; things deleted etc rct"s done based on dsmiii may not be applicable now for a dsmv. Science & pre-science (only treatments tested by rcts are approved, others are ignored) Rct"s only test objectively proven that take short time e. g. cbt but other non-sci. methods not even tested/neglect e. g. psychoanal. ; net is very narrow, need to cast net wider. Easy to detect a cause and effect relationship. Can control for confounding variables /b of hiv. Almost all treated participants see improvement of symptoms.
