PSYD33H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Elyn Saks, Workplace Bullying, Sleep Deprivation
Document Summary
Experiencing mania and the symptoms of schizo. Had surgery, but that didn"t change anything. Week 12 lecture #10: monday march 20, 2017. One of the most debilitating & stigmatized disorder. Delusions: beliefs that are unlikely to be true. E. g. , woman thought scientists planted a listening device in her uterus. Experience isn"t exclusive to schizo, can happen to anyone (e. g. , sleep deprived) E. g. , later onset, caused by workplace bullying (new immigrant, not understanding coworkers and no proof of bullying) Meds: control symptoms w/ moderate side effects. Cultural diffs: how it"s diagnosed (beliefs in god western, belief in ghost and voodoo) Most updated version of dsm don"t include these categories, b/c it"s hard to diagnose specific kind, lots of overlaps. Woman w/ chronic schzio, spent most of her life in psychiatric hospitals. Steve (her frd): barely moved, eat, closed all the curtains. Diagnosed as grave ; can only work mediocre job.
