Document Summary

Lecture #7 neurons and the nervous system. Examples: to illustrate this system in action, consider the following two situations, touching a hot iron sensory neurons detect the heat and send an excitatory message to inter-neurons in the spinal cord or brain. Action potential: dendrites get information from other neurons, neurons are sending 1 of 2 signals to the neuron, the do that based on the neurotransmitters here receiving (positive of negative signals) It tries to inhibit activity or excite activity. If there are enough positive signals it will pass the threshold and the neuron sends a signal. It depends on how much sodium and potassium is inside and outside of the cell: myelin provides nutrients and it insulates our neurons. Synapses: there is a space between the axon terminal and another neuron, the gap is called the synapse, there is 2 parts to the synapse.
