Babies are utterly dependent on others in order to fulfill their needs. They need another human to help them survive. The child needs a social network right from the day its born. It needs humans who will care for it. This is considered a bi-directional relationship since mothers have maternal instincts while the child is getting sustenance. Later on, the baby teaches the parents through negative reinforcement. He performed an experiment where a baby monkey was taken away from his real mother and was placed in a cage with two fake mothers". One mother was made of wire and had milk. The other mother was made out of cloth and didn"t give any food. The experiment was to find out who the baby preferred. Thus, the monkey started going to the wire mother for food but went back to the cloth mother for comfort: another condition was that air was blown to blow the monkey off of the cloth mother.
