Psychology II Lecture 23 Crowd Behaviour -peoples behaviours are easily affected by others when in a group -does not bring the best behaviour out of people Lynching -lynching is a murder by crowd without trial and punishment -took place in southern America -was treated as an entertainment to the crowd and a warning to black people -a relationship between frustration and aggression -people looked for an outlet of frustration -black people are vulnerable due to the slavery history -compare price of cotton (economics) with the number of lynching -when the price goes up, less lynching (inverse relationship) Gustave Le Bon -people turn to less sophisticated creature when they are in a group -even cultivated people become primitive -unjustified act is viewed as heroic act Contagion -idea is spread around and being followed by others -researchers study clapping behaviour in the science center movie theatre -when a larg
