What is that we know when we know a person? . Connectedness (mature dependence on others to achieve goals) vs. neediness (insecure/immature clinginess to feel secure about oneself) Comprehensive: we prefer theories that explain more than theories that explain less. Parsimonious: simplicity, elegance, economy of explanation (not too complex) we prefer theories that have fewer parts/constructs than a theory that has many parts. Often there is a tradeoff between the two things against each other b/c to make a theory comprehensive you have to express more and more parts. Generative- if a theory is really vibrant and good it leads to new ideas and people to talk about it more, we prefer these theories. Freud changed the way we see our self in the psychological manner.
