LEC3 The system allow adults to assess and engage in child development Reflexes: ensuring survival – rooting, sucking, eye blink, withdrawal  Less obvious value: toe grasp, stepping NBAS: defense moving – use a clock move in front of a baby’s eye to see how many times he defense it Infant state: infant response the immediate arousals Researchers prefer infant in higher state of arousal because they are happy (if you are hungry/sleepyX lead to first performance) Infant crying: first communication between parents and child Baby have different cries by tutoring infant cry, parents can differential the need  Types of crying: o Basic o Angry o Pain Female are more site for taking care of children: being able to assess different need of their child (more nurturing) Wiesenfeld et al. (1988): Father and mother come to the lab, listen to the baby cry They have to be able to their own baby, identify the types of crying Mothers and fathers can identify their own baby much better than other babies Mother feel intense, and feeling need to approach them right away Fathers ignore Cooperative breeding
