extinction ; basic principle of behaviour
- a lot of it is from 30s, 40s with Skinner
- component of many behaviour mod procedures
when a response previously reinforced is not followed by any reinforcement, the person is less likely
to engage in that behaviour again
- if contingency no longer exists, behaviour goes to zero
think of ABC:
ex. Louise , 26 , migraines since 13 years old , interventions unsuccessful , Demerol provided temporary
- could have a really bad face in pain that could get positive reinforcement from those people
