Based on what"s important at the time, the central executive helps you pay attention to one thing over another. In addition, there was the visuospatial sketchpad and phonological loop. The visuospatial sketchpad is the visual working memory, such as when you imagine something in your mind ( visual imagery ). Anything from visual sensory memory that you see and choose to pay attention to ends up in the sketchpad and you can work with it. The phonological loop is also called your inner voice . Based on whether you pay attention more to something visual or auditory, the central executive will give more attention to one thing over another. One thing that the original model of working memory had trouble accounting for was the interface with long-term memory.
