Representation: something that captures features of the world. Intentionality criterion: the idea that the representation has to be designed with the goal of making it a representation, the intention of building the representation of what you want to remember. Four possible formats for representations: broken down into 2 parts: Information is stored in the same format that it was acquired y one where the information is dramatically altered y the information comes in from perceptual system but is changed into a different process. meaningful sensory aspect of a perceived stimulus: damage to temporal lobe: people can process individual features without difficulty but they cant process complex objects. the idea that information is getting changed from perceptual to non-perceptual information: 3 examples: frames (propositional representation) y complex version of a simple propositions. property lists y list of all the features of the object. Evidence for semantic networks: takes time to get up levels.
