It is one thing for traits to predict individual differences in thin slices of behavior within circumscribed laboratory contexts. It is another thing entirely to show that traits predict important life outcomes, e. g. who is most likely to have a long, stable, and successful life ( is it predictable by looking at these traits?) Meta-analysis - quantitative results of studies are combined (bottom-up) Findings are smaller when you predict" outcome -> after the study. A standardized (i. e. , 1 r +1) index of the degree of association between two variables signs tell you the direction of the correlation.
