PSYC55H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Superior Colliculus, Inferior Colliculus, Cerebral Cortex
Document Summary
Superior/dorsal top of brain; inferior/ventral botom of brain. Anterior/rostral front of brain; posterior/caudal back of brain. Slices view of brain; data acquired in diferent silences, not just one whole brain scan: coronal: slicing brain like load of bread, horizontal: along the horizontal axis (x-axis, sagital: slicing parallel to midline (most common) Red points (slide 5): referring to the same point of the brain. Contralateral versus ipsilateral: contralateral: brain damage afected contralateral side of body. Unilateral versus bilateral: unilateral: afect one side of brain; bilateral: afect both sides of brain. Pns: aferent fibers bring in informaion from body to ns, eferent informaion from brain to body, autonomic: sympatheic versus parasympatheic. Increase of complexity in terms of what structure is responsible for. More higher order from spinal cord to forebrain. Medulla contains lots of cell bodies high concentraion relaing to cranial nerves. Medulla deals with informaion relaing to head-related motor/sensory signals.
