PSYC68H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Linear Regression, Dementia, Sidestroke
Document Summary
Qualitative subjective analysis of the images; last tutorial. Quantitative getting numbers from the images; good for mri. Eeg electrical activity good for temporal resolution; mri is slower, but good spatial resolution. Use measures of the brain to correlate with behavior measurements (ex: mri w/ reaction time) Want to correspond what we see behaviourally with what we see in the brain. Even if correlations are significant, it can either be strong or weak; hard to find 1:1 relationships between brain + behavior measurements. Linear regression fancy way of getting a correlation by accounting for multiple factors. The moca is a quick test of mild cognitive dysfunction. It assesses different cognitive domains including: attention, executive function, memory, language, visuoconstructional skills, conceptual thinking, calculations, and orientation. It takes ~10 minutes to complete; captures global cognitive functioning; score from 1-30. 26 or lower = risk of further cognitive decline or dementia; ad patient ~ 16; mci ~22; normal.
