Social ties and social norms suicide: strength of social ties are important to consider when thinking about suicide as, married adults are half as likely as unmarried adults are to commit suicide (pg6) Marriage can serve as an anchoring process that provides a sense of purpose. Lecture 2: social norms are also important, according to the authors: women are less likely to commit suicide than men because women are more involved in the intimate social relations of family life (pg6)
