Document Summary

Five key words on politics: economy, citizenship, nation state, power and law. Some news stories you hear won"t affect you because you have no connection to it. Political sociologists say we can"t look at politics as a ground that has nothing to do with us. Politics influence everything that happens in our life whether we know it or not. One way is to recognize the exercise and contestation of power is happening. Part 1: narrowly defined as a formal political arena or removed from our everyday life. We"ll see something expansive but also has an interaction of dynamics that is lived, experienced and embodied. A lot of what"s we"ll be talking about is who makes the rules, how are those rules made and how do we actually challenge them especially when they"re unfair. Part 2: #blacklivesmatter: a movement that was started in the us and in other places but more dynamic in the us.
