Document Summary

Last semester we looked at the wealth of nations, class exploitation, equalizing process with pros and cons and figure out the rules that govern our social world so we can draw on them and achieve peace and harmony (comte). Weber is credited as a classical theorist with coming up with a third way of looking at the world. During the time weber was writing, there were two dominate schools of thought. The first was positivism (talked about it with comte), which is the idea that there are fixed laws out there that govern us like how gravity governs the national world. If we can figure out what these laws are, we can come up with the list of causes as well as their effects and we can intervene in the world in very positive ways. Historicists disagree saying there"s no such thing as a fixed law and have to look at the particulars of a situation.
