Document Summary
2 types of solidarity: mechanical solidarity, organic solidarity. But rather how it affects society as a whole, regardless of what people intend on. It is not civilization" i. e. , the intellectual & material development of society. Making society richer & more filled up with all sorts of cultural opportunities. E. g. , universities has a lot of specialization, which produces a lot of specialized knowledge & specialized positions. Society with dol has a lot of civilization in it. It"s well-diverse & highly cultured: societies that have more civilization also have a higher crime & suicide rate. As society becomes more productive, wealthy & culturally advanced, people commit more crimes. This is even higher in the urban industrial core of the society compared to the rural areas: the trade off between civilization & crime doesn"t seem that great. Furthermore, the civilization is not widely distributed. While there may be great advancements in science, only a few are aware of it.
