Conflict: From 3:30PM
Example 1: temporal dimension. The conflicts are different between the ppl who
are friends before and the ppl who are enemies before. The previous relationship
matters. If you are friends, in a close personal way, but not you are not. And you
get into the conflicts that might be way worse. In another case, you understand
and expect your enemies to disagree with you and dislike you.
Example 2: conflict for itself. The reason for marry is not for conflict. But there
are some relationships are there for conflicts and competitions. What kinds of
relationship actually make and for conflicts? Politics, or governing, competitions
games, boxing, lawyers (case depending), in which you interacting people by
fighting with them.
Sociability:
What is it? In the before, it is about interacting with other ppl. It is a form of
interaction and association, where whole rules, and styles are there in order to
keep the interaction going on or keep the pressure taking in place. What is an
example of Simmel? A party. What is the purpose of a party? There is nothing
else, and they are just being there and for the pleasure of other ppl. It does not
matter what are you talking when you are dancing back and forth as long as you
keep the sociable environment going on.
What sociability does? Because the very social as the purpose. So sociology is
being social. Parties are the best way to really see the social interaction, because
they are a kind of association just about socialization. This is the pure action in
the party for associations.
oThere also are other purposes in the party, but they are the reasons why
parties are different from the community. For example, ppl social with
others and make the network.
Features:
oAutonomous…. it has to be independent. So we go parties for a purpose,
but there is something else above that, which really makes for the social
interaction. So what is the something else? There are informal rules to
create feelings of the parties.

oHigh level of artifices. They are artificial and no accident. You need it
make up. These are the ways they distinguish the parties from other
associations. Imposing this high level of artifices, and other things, that is
the way setting ppl and interacting with other ppl. Anything that who has
a higher status or other status should go away temporarily. P132,
sociability creates… joys, and other Jokes are artificial. However, the
level of equality of your enjoyment in the party is your job but not others.
oPlayful interaction: the party is about interacting. But not simply nothing.
The content of your conversations need some subjects. A Quote: …shadow
of being they are cannot go away… you take the thing out of the world,
and take into the conversation significantly. The consequences of your
action and words do not matter. Another example by Simmel: Coquetry.
.
But why ppl do this? Ppl need the reality life but why they go to parties? Because
sociability provide distance from everyday life into the space and step back of
everyday life. They create important opportunities place. Durkheims profane is
similar to this. The extra-ordinary things. Because our lives, we have work,
politics and you go to parties, all other things are put away.
…..
Part II: the formal approaches Simmel have for the sociology.
Social types: The stranger
They are trying to describe the recurrent way of ppl interacting with ppl. One
consequence of doing that is developing social types, which is the certain
character types treats that are typical of …. Who occupied in the formal position.
If there is a single ruler in the group, you could try to describe the difference or
similarities between the single rules-in-a-groups. You could think it in a
geometrical way: A triangle. There are some types of ppl like that too. The
position of single ruler, you have to take on the certain artributions.
Stranger: being a stranger is a certain social type. What is a stranger? The main
aspect of his id
