SOCC45H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Diesel Fuel, Antonio Gramsci, Northern Ontario
Document Summary
Still waiting in attawapiskat: will canada fail the next generation of first nations students? (youtube video) Fuel on his clothes, they begin questioning the environment in the school: his school was contaminated soon after its construction when toxic diesel fuel began leaking under the building. Students and teachers were getting sick so the school got shut down and they all began attending school in portables. The residents are outraged and demand a school. A lot of young people died, at 14 and 15 and 22: a friend drowned. Environmental reports confirm the toxic leak, and the government keeps promising it and not delivering on their promise with no dates of action set. They live between a contaminated area and a busy airstrip. It took them thirty years to build a school that was contaminated (after a year). They should have had a school within 5 years *this is such a realistic expectation!
