What is identity politics: hochreter argues that identity politics can sometimes overlook the differences within particular groups. Notion that categories of difference are dissimilar in nature & therefore, cannot be treated the same way. Focuses on interviews with leaders within lgbt social movements in the usa to understand how they perceive their multiple identities. Idea: one category can help us understand better another (or other) categories of inequality (page 59) What intersectionality really means for movements (video) Immigration is not seen as a women"s issue. Say her name campaign awareness of black women who faced police brutality. Limitations of intersectionality as a theory & practice . It"s sometimes better/helpful to look at one social identity, rather than all together. It may be confusing/overwhelming for those who do not have an activist mindset.
