Darwin couldn"t figure out how traits moved from one to another. Didn"t understand what was going on on cellular level. Very short generation time (didn"t have to wait long for the result) Produced pure breeding lines (began to experiment with the two different lines) Only one of traits were seen (yellow seed) Wondered where these characteristics went -> allowed the plants to self-fertilize. Started seeing a pattern, green seed would pop up (and every other different straits in 3:1 ratio) All those factors determined the traits of the plants. When they were cross bred, one of the other masked the other (not there physically, but it was somewhere within the plant) The world forgot about his laws, but decades later, he had beat everyone in the field of genetics. Many don"t go by the mendelian traits, but some traits such as cheek dimples. Intelligence don"t or eye color or hair color.
