Allophones and phonemes are only a small fraction of the test, one question. How social standards get imposed on everyone. The group has imposed on each member of the neighborhood, helping to explain why they confirm and not reject. Language and signifying behavior in general, limits what we can say, think and do. Often below the level of our consciousness. Hegemony: pressure from others, acceptance by us. Language, dialect, and accent: popular, not scientific terms. ; tagalog, ilokano varieties with no state. Languages: serbian, croatian: hindi, urdu varieties with a religion (and script) Danish and norwegian are very identical languages, but it is the people that want to separate the languages. They believe they are separate nations and separate people. Objective reasons: critical period for learning distant languages. Subjective reasons: foreign accent depends on both production and reception of speech: how people speak and how we hear them.
