ANT200Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 92: Shang Dynasty, Sedentism, Portable Art
Document Summary
Plant domestication in africa: the sahara 4500 years ago was much wetter. This means that the human population there was much more dense: there were hunter gatherers in the sahara. They used lots of grinding stones, and were similar to the natu ans, except they made lots of pottery: evidence indicates that these hunter gatherers were fairly sedentary, example: gobero, niger. This was a very large cemetery with remains of over 200 individuals. At the time, it was on a peninsula that jutted out into a lake. As such, it was an important place for shing. Nabta playa: several interesting sites here. We do nd settlements, the settlements have circular its with storage pits. Some pottery, some wild plants, no domesticated plants. Uan afuda: possible for people trying to domesticate the barbary sheep, the cave has post holes, lots of dung. Unfortunately these attempts were not successful because the sheep were never domesticated.
