Environmental issues are a growing concern in Canada. Although there are numerous
acts put in place to enhance the quality of the natural habitat, only a few are used to maintain the
quality of the Environment. The common legislations that outline Environmental issues are,
Antarctic Environmental Protection Act (AEPA), Canadian Environmental Protection Act,
1999, Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, and Species at Risk Act. The most significant act
is the Environmental Enforcement Act, which is seen to prohibit environmental damage and
provides the safety of the environment.
The Antarctic Environmental Protection Act (AEPA) was enacted in 2003 to protect the
Antarctic environment. The treaty was implemented to allow overseas activities in the Antarctic.
This act is subjected for anyone who is part of a Canadian expedition in the Antarctic, permanent

this treaty and are active3. The Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty is
commonly recalled as the Madrid Protocol which came in force in 1998. Thirty countries are
