Document Summary

In the 30s looked at all the galaxies and tried to figure out how they were moving in space. If you know how big they are you can figure out how fast they are moving. Realized they were moving much faster than his predictions. Most of the mass of the galaxies we were seen was actually invisible. People thought that his missing mass" idea was crazy. Looked at individual galaxies to see how things moved. Looked at how fast clouds of gas moved around in galaxies like our own milky way. Found results that are opposite to that of kepler"s third law. Something that was going on in galaxies that was making things move faster than they should. Up to 90% of the masses of these galaxies was invisible. 4. 9% of the universe is what we call luminous matter".
