Document Summary

Glacier lily prospers where there are surface rocks. In winter, top green secion dies of and the nutrients retract into the botom corn. Ants atracted by elaiosome not the actual seed itself. Ants pile the seeds in piles and this is good as this allows the seed to germinate. Deeper soil areas can hold moisture as they have organic mater that can retain moisture beter than rocky shallow soil. As seed dispersal is weak, wonder why the seedlings are dispersed not where the vegetaion is produced (as the seeds produce the vegetaion) Find seedlings in area where there"s less rock and more soil moisture. Gopher acivity higher in areas without rocks. Seeds that produced in rocky areas most likely to die and not reproduce in their irst year. Lots of exposure for plants if in open non-rock area. Rock-refuge hypothesis is that the rocks protect the plant from other factors so provide beter living environment for plant.
