Document Summary

Reproducive isolaion is the key issue in thinking about speciaion. How many genes are involved with speciaion is very important topic. Want to igure out how many genes are needed for reproducive isolaion. Geneicists said that biological species concept (concept that species are diferent if you cross-breed them and the ofspring are sterile) Many species you can"t apply this concept to though as you can"t make them cross-breed (ex. For sheer pracical reasons, as can"t invesigate the inferility of certain species, many use morphological method. Dobzhansky actually came up with the idea of bsc but mayr really pushed it forward. Two main modes of speciaion are allopatric and sympatric. Allopatric is very common, also known as geographical speciaton. This is the idea that speciaion occurs due to geographical isolaion. The geographical barrier impedes opportunity for gene low between two populaions. Sympatric means growing together and allopatric means growing apart.
