Document Summary
Interphase: chromosomes not condensed, loosely distributed, can"t see individual chromosomes. 2 parts: m phase and interphase: m phase: the nucleus and cytoplasm divide. Cytokinesis: interphase: the period between cell division, 3 stages (g = gap) Not always stuff going on in cell, sometimes cell seems fairly inert; after period of time, cell goes into m phase i. ) G1 phase: cell growth, metabolism, protein sorting, no large scale events. End of g1: decision whether to enter cell cycle and replicate dna ii. ) G2 phase: end of s phase and beginning of m phase, cell growth, preparation for m phase, cell checks dna properly replicated, no damage, cell ready for m phase. Cycle, cell goes through repeated rounds of cycling through process. At end of each cycle, should be 2 daughter cells containing nuclei, each nucleus contains correct complement of chromosomes. Most of our cells not dividing: many mature cells do not divide. E. g. nerve cells, muscle cells, red blood cells.
