Document Summary
Careful crystallography required for imaging of ribosome, largely responsible for translation of proteins (large and small subunit). Redundancy with multiple codons for most amino acids, but not ambiguous. Mostly universal, except for some exceptions (mitochondrial genome) Minor variation can exist between organisms, but it is generally universal among all organisms. 64 possible codons, including 3 stop codons, but only 20 amino acids. Need to make sure that we start with the right reading frame, otherwise this will affect the entire protein that"s translated. Start codon provides bases for beginning of reading frame aug (met in. Three possible reading frames exist eukaryotes/fmet in prokaryotes) Single-stranded rna with double stranded regions (secondary structure) that are very predictable. Single stranded regions are anticodons and acceptor arms. Has 5" end and 3" end with oh group, single-stranded molecule with double- stranded stems through complimentary base pairing. Amino acid acceptor arm is where amino acid is attached to trna.
