Document Summary

In this class we will be looking at evoluionary causes and consequences of variaion in traits and behaviors between individuals, sexes and populaions. Explanaions for behaviors, traits and sexual behaviors, social behaviours (genes are more important than the individual), aging, evoluion of disease. Genes and environment inluence phenotypes which include behaviors: natural selecion shapes behaviours, phenotypes are the products of genes and the environment. Environmental efects on trait values can be described as plasicity , and these can be adapive: with the inluence of genes and environment, can be visualized with plots of the reacion norm. Natural selecion shapes the reacion norm: organism in one area vs organism in an area with no resources gives us plasicity. How do mechanisms within an animal work to produce a paricular trait? (mechanism quesions that give us proximate causes) Why has an animal evolved the trait? (ulimate causes)
