Lecture 7 Allosteric Regulation - modulates enzymes at key steps in metabolic pathways - the end product is an essential metabolite – inhibits enzyme 1, the first step in the pathway - feedback inhibition/regulation – when sufficient end product is synthesized, it blocks further synthesis of itself - enzymes subject to feedback inhibition represent the regulatory class of enzymes - regulatory enzymes have characteristic properties:  kinetics do not obey Michaelis-Menten – v versus [S] plots yield sigmoid-shaped curves rather than rectangular hyperbolas – suggests second-order or higher relationship between v and [S] – s
