Pasteur was developing vaccines for rabies with dried up infected rabbit spinal cords. The rabies outcome before the vaccine was certain death. Theres 2 types of rabies in humans, furious and paralytic. Furious is bizzar behavior, jerky and violent contraction of he diapgram, difficulty of swallowing, fear of water. The key revelations accured in the 1890s that affected tobacco plants. By gringind up the infected leaves and applying them to healthy leaves, the healthy leaves would be infected. Even when passed thru a double filter, the jouice remained infective. When the crushed diseased tobacco leaves and passed thru a porsylic filter designed to trap bacteria, it was found that the filtrate could cause disease. This mysterious infectious agent became known as the tobacco mosaic virus. This method was applied years later to be the first to identify the first (cid:448)irus disease i(cid:374) a(cid:374)i(cid:373)als.
