Document Summary

Mini presentation: any information that lead up to this study. Viruses are the most abundant life form. Hershey and chase, first experiment to tell what dna was made of. Discovery of prions which everyone thought were viruses and were discovered to not be viruses. Interactions can be physical or through chemical interactions. Can have rna or dna genome but not both. Unique as in among the few things that have rna genome. Protein coat is known as capsid and can be protected by an envelope (lipid bilayer) There is a difference between virion and virus. Equate virus to insect and equate virion to pupa. A virion is one stage where it is physically intact. When enters a cell, a virus undergoes uncoating where they let go of the envelope and protein coat and just the *nucleic acid enters the nucleus. It is always a virus and only a virion when physically intact form.
