Extra-Textual/Inter-Textual Features:
Extra-Textual = Extra to the text
THE FILM
EXTRA-TEXTUAL = DVD Materials, Publicity, Reviews, Analysis, SOCIAL

INTER-TEXTUAL = Another Film
Ex. “Scary Movie”, “Scream”
There is also Textual, to do with the film itself
Extra-Textual includes publicity, etc.

The Classical Film:
The Classical Film derives from Classical Hollywood Cinema
Classic vs. Classical (not the same) Classic = status as a masterwork, Classical
referring to mode of production (derives primarily from Classical Hollywood golden
studio era circa 1920’s-1950’s)
Not exclusively connected to Hollywood as the Hollywood style pervaded the
International Marketplace
Production Companies:
THE BIG FIVE Warner Brothers, Fox, MGM (Goldwyn-Meyer), Paramount, A Radio
Pictures
THE LITTLE THREE Universal, United Artists, Columbia Productions
