Peloponnesian wars (431-404 bce: between athens and sparta, also conflict within athens, the origins of the p. war go back to the end of the persian wars. Delian league was made up of aegean islands who were afraid that the persians would come back. These states had no navy of their own, but they contributed money to athens to build up its army so they would protect them. As they became resentful of the athenians, who could use the money however they saw fit. 454 bce: treasury is moved from delos to athens. So, athens starts meddling increasingly in the internal government of the allies. 430s bce: athens is trying to dominate greece. Committing horrible crimes, citizens start competing with each other this rips the city apart.
