Myth"s afterlife: myth from early christianity to the present . Evocatio: calling forth (latin, roman ritual, inviting an enemy"s gods to join the romans, romans lured enemy gods with promises of bigger sacrifices and temples, a way for roman"s to stay on the side of the gods. Syncretism: the practice of blending two or more different religious traditions, associating new gods with their own roman gods, combinations of two gods. They didn"t understand why you would want to worship only one god. Wouldn"t you want to have more than one god on your side: romans respected judaism though because it was old and traditional, and the romans liked thing that were old and traditional. As long as they paid their taxes, the jewish were not really persecuted like they were in other parts of the world. 4 bce in judea: preached non-traditional interpretations of jewish scripture, acquired followers called disciples .
