Laws/institutions established by solon and before continued to be followed. Athens is now a player in the greek scene. During the 6th century, many economic reforms attributed to solon took hold and grew in athens. Ancient sources tell us that one of the reasons tyrants were despised by aristocrats is that they liked to tax people. In sparta, we only really know of a single tax. Had to contribute a certain amount of grain to the central messes. On the other hand, in peisistratid athens, the large population enjoys rights that are certainly greater than those who lived in oligarchs.
