Do we embrace it or put up walls: think about the relationship between stigmatization and penalization. Punishment is not only a physical manifestation of violence. When law looks at us it perceives us to be exactly the same. It presumes that there is some base level legal subject. Or do they encourage us to sit back and allow the system of power-relations that already exist to flow through. The system doesn"t actually better our relations to feel safe: rules don"t actually have to be codified for them to exist. Laws don"t engage with us to make our relations more secure.
