Lecture: two kinds of detective fiction, sherlock holmes model. Individual, detective has a buddy which is partly a male-male relationship and it allowed them to express a dialogue. Idea that individual is a sort of loner, protecting rougher classes, but not comfortable by middle-upper class: question of mental abilities, not a scientist, somewhat scientific, but very knowledgeable, observations are physical.
