Individuals hold particular theories and ideas about work. Individuals have complex motivations for why they work and what they desire to achieve from working. The employment relationship goes beyond a purely economic exchange to fully understand it requires grappling with historical, legal, social, and political dimensions of work, societies, and organizations. Employment relations developed with practical intention to solve the labour problem in a particular context, place, and time; yet remains relevant today. Which conceptualization most aligns with your view of work? (budd, 2011: 14) A curse: a burden necessary for human survival or maintenance of social order. Freedom: a way to achieve independence from nature or other humans and express creativity. A commodity: an abstract quantity of productive effort; tradable economic value. Occupational citizenship: an activity pursued by members of a community entitled to certain rights. Disutility: a lousy activity tolerated to obtain goods and services that provide pleasure (opposite of leisure)
