Values: a broad tendency to prefer certain states of affairs over others. Preference: values have to do with what we consider good and bad. Broad tendency: values are very general and that they do not predict behavior in specific situations very well. Traditionalists- grew up in the shadows of two wars. Baby boomers- vibrant economy (sexual revolution and rock n roll). Team perspective, experienced, service oriented, treat as equals, warm. Generation x- dual career families and more divorce rate. The millennials. (generation y)- same as x. 14%. Gen x & y value money, status, rapid career growth more than boomers. They want respect meaning they want to be listened too. Lack of appreciation of basic differences in work related values across cultures. Work centrality: japan very high work centrality. Americans avg but the british had the lowest. Those people with a lot if central interest in work would continue working despite the new found wealth.
