INTRODUCTION CLASS
1.) What is the difference between Fantasy and Horror and Science fiction?
Fantasy:
- Draws on older values, beliefs
- Has different content compared to SF or H
- It's very clear who the enemy is
-It's very clear who the good/god is
- Fantasy may want to give you the joy of escape
-Fantasy has a good mood
-hopeful resolution
Science Fiction & Horror:
- closer to reality where as fantasy is far off
- in organic
2.) How do we recognize a fantasy text?
We recognize a fantasy text by the images, dragons, titles with fancy calligraphy.
-words that recall fantasy themes or ideas, font of the title
- usually come as paperback books
3.) Why fantasy?
- because a characters flaws are in more depth
fantasy " A self coherent narative of wonder and impossibility in which the worlds technology is
organized and its shaping mystery is unexplained."
Definitions are " conditioned"
WHAT IS HORROR?
Horror is not a genre like mystery of Science fiction or the western. It is not a kind of fiction,
meant to be confined to the ghetto of a special shelf in libraries or book stores. Horror is an
emotion.
